Rongbuk Monastery is Tibetan Buddhist monastery which has the world highest altitude, 5,800 meters. The monastery is located on the top of Zhuma mountain in Basong Township of Shigatse prefecture. It is only 200 meters lower than the north side of Everest Base Camp. For those who want to reach the peak of Mt. Everest via North Face must pass through the monastery.
Rongbuk Monastery has 5 floors, and currently two floors are being used. It used to have over 300 monks and 300 nuns in the peak time, but now only 11 monks and 8 nuns.
