Collapse of Serfdom

The 13th Dalai Lama assumed the power to manage the political and religious affairs of Tibet in year 1895. During British army invaded Tibet and occupied Lhasa for 50 days in year 1904, the 13th Dalai Lama was retreated to Qinghai. The title as Dalai Lama of the 13th Dalai Lama was unapproved until he went to Beijing where Emperor Guangxu and Empress Cixi had and audience with him.
In 1940, the government of Republic of China hosted the bed-sitting ceremony for the14th Dalai, Danzengjiacuo. In 1949, the government hosted the bed-sitting ceremony for the 10th Panchen, Erdeni.
