In the first few days after arrival, you may experience some degree of altitude reaction. You must relax and reduce your activities. You can take anti-altitude sickness drugs to cope with oxygen deficiency. Colds, insomnia, and digestive disorders are common, and so prepare some medicines to tackle these problems, and some external treatments for contusions and strains.

Drink Sufficient Water
The air on the plateau is arid and it is vital to drink enough water. It is advisable to drink a lot of water after breakfast and to drink 200-300 ml of water after physical exercise. Hold each mouthful in the mouth for a few seconds before swallowing it.

Guard against Ultraviolet Rays
UV radiation is strong in Tibet and increases by 5 percent with every 300 meters above sea level. Strong UV is harmful to both eyes and skin, so when you go out into the sun, you should wear anti-UV sunglasses, a sun hat and sun block.

Equip yourself before setting out with a basic knowledge of Tibetan folklore, customs, religious beliefs, life style, natural and cultural sights. This will make for a smoother visit.
