Currency used in Tibet

The currency used in Tibet is RMB (Renmingbi), or Chinese Yuan. It is the official and legal currency. Tibet doesn’t have local currency. Travelers can exchange money (RMB) from the banks, hotels or airport. But since the infrastructure and economy still need to be greatly improved, money exchange might not be as easy as in other cities of inland China. For some shops, credit card or US dollars might be accepted, but it is suggested to bring enough cash of RMB when take Tibet tours. The other countries’ currencies are not used in Tibet China.
